Our Minister

2dsc_3239Rev. Allison Farnum, UUCFM Minister

Rev. Farnum began serving our congregation in August of 2008.  In community and denominational life, she is currently serving on the board of Interfaith Action of Southwest Florida, an ally organization of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. She is also a member of the UU Allies for Racial Equity, and serves on the Steering Committee for the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of Florida.  Rev. Allison is also on the steering committee of the newly forming interfaith congregation-based community organizing group, Lee County Interfaith Sponsoring Committee.

Rev. Farnum enjoys living in Southwest Florida with her partner Andy, and loves the water- the Gulf, the Caloosahatchee, and the various creeks are gifts to explore and behold.

Rev. Farnum has been a member of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers’ Association since 2005 and received her preliminary Unitarian Universalist Association fellowship in September 2007.  She received her Master of Divinity degree from Meadville Lombard Theological School in June 2008.  Prior to becoming minister of this congregation in August of 2008, she served as contract minister at the Open Circle Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fond du Lac, WI., intern minister at the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore in 2005-2006 and as summer minister at the Unitarian Church of Evanston, IL, in 2007.

Before studying for the ministry, she was active in her home church, Second Unitarian Church of Chicago. She was a youth advisor serving the Young Unitarian Universalists and the adult representative for the Central Midwest District Youth Steering Committee.  Rev. Farnum began seminary in part due to her church involvement as a lay-leader and also due to her work at Planned Parenthood Chicago area as a health care assistant and then in clinic administration.  In undergraduate studies, Rev. Farnum received a Bachelor of Science in Speech from Northwestern University, majoring in theatre.
