Minister's Monthly Column: March 2011
March 2011 - In Endless Song by Rev. Allison Farnum

This month in the life of the church puts us in a time of transition.  The Board of Trustees welcomes new leaders and we all give thanks for those who have served.  Our annual meeting gathers member constituents who will set goals for the coming year and vote on the moral document we call our annual budget, making the mission and vision of the church real in dollars and cents.

Transitions are the name of the game for human existence, lifting up the old adage that the only constant is change itself.  In the spiritual life, transition is a given, and we are called to respond in ways that are loving and life-giving.  I am reminded of one of my favorite hymns, My Life Flows on in Endless Song by Robert Lowry (1826-99):

My life flows on in endless song
Above earth's lamentations,
I hear the real, though far-off hymn
That hails a new creation.

Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear it's music ringing,
It sounds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?

May you keep singing amidst all of Life’s transitions, grounded in love that hails a new creation.
